Hello all~
Welcome back to the start of a new semester! Glad to see many familiar faces back for band practice, please keep up the good work! ^^
First and most important of all,
I would like to announce that the committee has set a new rule.
SIBF participants MUST achieve at least a 70% ATTENDANCE for all the upcoming practices, starting from next Monday (23 April 2012).
Attendance will not be taken for the absentees or for those who come in after 7pm, unless valid reasons are given. Reasons will be taken into consideration by the whole committee.
I understand that everyone is really busy now that a new semester has started and work is flowing in, but please try your best to practice your parts before coming for sectionals/full band practice so that we can improve faster together! :D
You guys can do it!
Secondly,
The pieces that we are going to play for SIBF has been confirmed. These are the 2 pieces that we're going to play:
1) Sichi-Go-San by Itaru Sakai
2) Othello by Alfred Reed
Thirdly,
We will be having a TUNE-IN SESSION for all the FRESHIES out there who are interested in joining NPCB! :D
Date: 28th April 2012
Time: 9am-3.30pm
Venue: Bandroom @ Blk 73 04-03 (Turn left after stepping out of the lift)
Freshies, please remember to RSVP with us!
We will send down an ushering team to the NP bus stop so be sure to look out for people holding NPCB signs! Follow them if you are unsure of where to go.
Do note that you can text Ashley or Terence if you have a hard time finding your way to our band room, we are friendly :)
Freshies, you will be divided into your respective sections once you reach the band room. Full band practice will start at 9.30am sharp and end at 11.30am. We'll be having lunch and games later on!
SLs, PLEASE REACH THE BAND ROOM BY 8.30AM SHARP.
Please remember to bring along the following items:
1) Personal instrument (if you have one)
2) Water bottle
3) Jacket (the band room may be quite cold)
4) Yourself! ^^
Lastly,
Remember to practice hard for SIBF! We must strive to achieve for a higher result as compared to the one in 2010. Remember the various marking criteria and start working on your weakest point. JIAYOU EVERYONE!
p/s: SLs please remember to send Ashley the list of confirmed players by today (Saturday, 21st April 2012) and remember to set a day for tutoring sessions/sectionals! And also, a very big THANKYOU! to the SLs and members who came down to maintain the instruments for tune in :D
Warmest regards,
Ashley ^^

2nd announcement,
CCA FIESTA will be held from 16-18 APRIL 2012.
A SMALL PERFORMANCE WILL BE HELD BY NPCB on 18 APRIL (WEDNESDAY).
So far we have the lower brass quartet who has expressed their interest in this performance.
We will need another performance of about 7-10 minutes long. Any sections/ensembles interested in performing during CCA fiesta, please contact Terence or Ashley via SMS/whatsapp or face to face.
CCA POINTS WILL BE AWARDED FOR THIS PERFORMANCE.
Please do not hesitate to come up and show us what you've got!
Performance given on a first come first serve basis, in consideration of an interesting & upbeat repertoire.
3rd announcement,
Terence will be bringing down the sample band tees, both men and women sizes, from the supplier this coming Monday (9/4/2012).
Please do come down and try them on and check if the size suits you! Changes can still be made.
We will be closing the orders really soon so if you are unable to come, please ask your friend to help you check the size!
Lastly,
On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank all of the members who came for band practice during the holidays.
Your commitment is much, much appreciated!
Please keep up the good work ^^
For those who did not attend band practice during the holidays, we all miss you very much!
Please do come back for band practice when school reopens alright? :D
Once a band member, always a band member. Sounds cheesy, but band members will always be welcomed back by all!
What are you waiting for? Don't hesitate! Come on down to the next upcoming practice and start "jamming" with us!
Yours truly,
Ashley! ^^

Our Band
The Ngee Ann Polytechnic Concert Band was established in 1983 under the baton of Mr. Yeo Poong Poh. The idea of forming a band was conceived by our 4th principal, Mr. Chen Hung, a noted music lover.
The band holds two public concerts yearly, namely “POPS ‘N’ CLASSICS” and “RONDEAU”. RONDEAU is held to further strengthen the relationship among the alumni and main band members.
RONDEAU was first staged in 1986 in Victoria Concert Hall after the 1st POPS ‘N’ CLASSICS. The name RONDEAU means ‘coming around’.
The band has participated in events such as the Penang Arts Festival, which marked the starting point of the band’s many expeditions abroad, included a cultural exchange to Perth in October 2006.
Besides its annual performances, NP Concert Band performs regularly for the NP’s student body and the public such as the Singapore Arts Festival - Fringe, CCA Fiesta, NP Open House and Ngee Ann Art Festivals.
ME4 Tan Aik Kee Steven took over the title of resident conductor in 2004 and has since then brought the band to greater heights.
The band took part in the opening of the prestigious World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensemble (WASBE) 2005. The band also clinched a silver medal in the 1st National Bands Competition (Open Division) in 2006.
The band was invited by the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts to perform for their National Day Observance Ceremony. In addition, the band was awarded the Most Outstanding Societies Award (Art and Cultural) in 2005/2006.
In 2009, the band, together with NP Strings, staged the first ever combined concert, Ripieno, at Victoria Concert Hall. Through this concert, the members of both clubs have built up wonderful friendships and had an unforgettable experience playing in an Orchestra.
In 2010, the band took part in Singapore International Band Festival (First Division) and clinched a silver medal with score of 84.14%.
In 2011, the band was invited to perform for an event "Music In The City" held at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza. Through this performance, the band members have gained an exceptional experience performing at Orchard Road and bond with each other.
In our love for music-making, we hope to continue this amazing musical journey together...
